ABOUT THE EXHIBITION SPACE
On April 30th, 2015 Giorgio Armani opened Armani/Silos in Milan’s Via Bergognone 40 to mark 40 years of his career. Originally the granary of a major international company constructed in 1950 and measuring around 4,500 square meters on four levels, ‘[he] decided to call it silos because this building used to store food, which is, of course, essential for life. For [him], just as much as food, clothes are also a part of life.’
THE BACKGROUND ON ARMANI/SILOS
The search for simplicity, eliminating unnecessary ornamentation and everything that is superfluous, coupled with a preference for regular geometric shapes and a desire for uniformity have produced a sober yet monumental building based on the rule of order and rigor: a rational response to practical needs, with spaces demonstrating respect for the original architecture. By preserving the building’s unusual established form, recalling a beehive, a metaphor for industriousness, the renovation of the exhibition space reinforces the designer’s aesthetic philosophy and creative dynamism.
The space includes not only the exhibition areas but also a gift shop and an open-plan indoor coffee shop, as well as housing a digital archive.
Armani/Silos offers an overview of over 40 years of the designer’s career, including 400 outfits and 200 accessories from Giorgio Armani’s ready-to-wear collections from 1980 to the present.
Giorgio Armani has said: ‘setting up Armani/Silos, deciding what to exhibit and how, focusing on the themes that best represent a way of thinking and a style – all this helped me look back on my 40-year career in a passionate but balanced way. Because fashion, which seems to want to live in an eternal present, needs to reflect on itself and its own roots in order to face the future. Through this process of reflection, we see how fashion accompanies and often anticipates important social changes. Remembering what we were like in the past can help us understand what we might be in the future.’
The collection permanently on display showcases a selection of over forty years’ worth of unique Giorgio Armani fashion creations grouped around three recurring themes, central to the designer’s work and that continue to shape his collections: Androgynous, Ethnicities and Stars.
ANDROGYNOUS
As simple, pure and clean-cut as possible: this is what fashion means to Giorgio Armani.
In his thorough exploration of the jacket, which is a must-have everyday item, Armani reinterprets the original concepts of androgyny, yet stays true to a style that conveys understated, discreet femininity and elegance.
Renowned for his neutral colours and his reinterpretations of traditional male fabrics, Armani loves to blend rigorous male tailoring and soft female dressmaking, elements that give life to a wardrobe designed with an unprecedented fluidity.
Over the years, Giorgio Armani’s suit has evolved but it has essentially remained true to the original.
ETHNICITIES
The strong influence of non-western cultures can be seen in Giorgio Armani’s creations, for which he uses elements inspired by far away ethnicities and interprets them with his signature style.
Africa, China, Japan. Persia, Arabia. Syria and Polynesia are some of the places that have inspired the designer.
STARS
There is a strong bond between Giorgio Armani and cinema.
Male and female celebrities alike have decided to wear his clothes, both on screen and on the red carpet, and over time have become friends.
After the visit, turn back toward Tortona Street and stop at the iconic MUDEC: the Museum of Design & Creativity.

Full day private tour of the Roman Castles
Meet with your private driver at the hotel lobby and start your full day tour of the Roman Castles, disocvering a beautiful area surrounding the capital, off the beaten path
The Roman castles are located in the territory of the ancient Lazio Vetus, about 30 km from Rome, they are a series of small villages scattered on a territory of volcanic origin, immersed in the green of hills, woods and lakes; there are fourteen villages rich in history, traditions and popular festivals. The Roman castles are located on the hills, in the area of the Alban hills, a short distance from each other; this holiday day will give you the opportunity to visit the main hill towns of Nemi, Ariccia and Castel Gandolfo; in the whole area of the castles, agriculture is the main economic and employment resource, together with the production of excellent and renowned wines.
First stop will be at Lago di Nemi
Nemi is the smallest village in the regional area of the Roman castles, beautiful and famous for the abundant cultivation of strawberries and for the respective feast; unlike normal-sized strawberries, smaller strawberries are very delicious, known as “wild strawberries”, which is why farmers use them to make liqueurs and liqueur cream, recommended as an excellent aperitif or as a pastime to sweeten the palate . Nemi is famous and has been recognized for the excellent quality of hospitality and stay of tourists. Walking through the streets of the city you can visit its small shops, taste the different liqueurs and buy typical local products such as jams, cakes, ham, spicy salami, bresaola, cheese and other curiosities of the local gastronomy. Its historic center is in a beautiful panoramic position on Lake Nemi, famous because two Roman ships dating back to the times of the Emperor Caligula were found here, preserved for years in the museum of Roman ships.
You will proceed then toward Ariccia
Ariccia is a very well-known and popular city in the area of the Roman castles, in the dialects of the castles it is called A ‘Riccia. Its popularity is due to the high flow of tourists who visit the Chigiano complex every year along with works by Bernini and other religious monuments. His cuisine is very similar to the Roman one, but the most famous culinary product of the castles is the Porchetta, served together with other products and accompanied by a nice glass of white wine, typical of the areas where wine is produced in the castles. Porchetta is a typical elaborate dish, made up of a whole pig, emptied, boned and seasoned, ideal for snacks in the cellar, in the garden and at home. Along the roads between one village and another, you can observe their customs and traditions, meeting famous kiosks of the Roman Porchetta or of Ariccia.
Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo will be your last stop
Castel Gandolfo is a beautiful city known above all for the summer residence of the Popes, where the Popes habitually lived for the summer, in absolute rest and relaxation. Around the residence there are other prestigious residences, villas and houses, built for nobles and rich families who have chosen this place to enjoy their holidays with a view of the lake and in absolute tranquility. The historic center is visited by tourists from all over the world, from the main square to its internal streets, full of restaurants, hotels and traditional shops with a splendid view of Lake Albano, known as the lake of Castel Gandolfo.
